Social Media for Social Good & #JerseyLove

This June a group of social media savvy moms will be heading down the Jersey shore to help rebuild. I am honored and humbled to be a part of the group and able to add my voice and assistance to help my own state, my own neighbors, and my own friends rebuild and triumph over Mother Nature. While I am a born and raised Jersey Girl, plenty of social media moms are travelling from all over the country to *my* “hometown” to roll up their sleeves and help. (So thanks ladies!!)

Despite NJ’s home grown songbird Bruce Springsteen singing “down the shore everything’s all right” — everything down the Jersey shore ISN’T alright… our neighbors at the shore are still struggling and even homeless since Hurricane Sandy last fall. Just because this story isn’t still in the nightly news doesn’t mean that everything is fixed. It’s not. We need help. Still.
Our group is working with RestoreOurShore and Caesars Entertainment, Inc. to help spread the #JerseyLove. Be sure to keep in touch to find out how you can help.

Kim Kardashian’s Curve-Hugging Maternity Style Explained By Her Stylist, Nicola Formichetti

When Nicola Formichetti first revealed in February that he was styling Kim Kardashian, we were immediately curious how he would dress the pregnant reality star’s famous curves. And we soon received our answer: Never sacrificing her love of fashion, Kardashian has continued to wear the figure-hugging dresses and sky-high heels she loves so well—a head-turning combination for the petite star with a baby on board. That’s why we had to ask the man behind her latest looks—(left to right) a modest black-and-white shift, a leather dress by her sweetheart Kanye West, and two very different Lanvin creations—what he thought of his client’s memorable maternity style. “Kim symbolizes the modern-day girl. She likes very sexy things,” Formichetti told InStyle.com at the February launch of Mugler’s handbag collaboration with Shopbop. “She has a different body structure, [and with her pregnancy], it’s a challenge.” But he added, “She’s not a model, and that excites me!” Tell us: What do you think of Kim’s sexy maternity looks?
Plus, see more of her past style choices!

MUSIC NEWS: EVE RELEASES ALBUM COVER FOR ‘LIP LOCK’

Long gone are the heydays of Ruff Ryders’ gutter E-V-E. Not to negate her contributions to the Hip-hop game as one of the few female rappers able to hang with the fellas, but the Philly femcee grew up and now exudes a less rowdy persona.

Tiny Slips Up; Reveals Sex of Tamar Braxton’s Baby

“Braxton Family Values” stars Tamar Braxton, her sister Towanda, and husband Vince Herbert were Carol Blackmon’s guests on Atlanta radio station Majic 107.5 this morning. Herbert made it a point to say 4-months pregnant Tamar would reveal the sex of her fetus when she was ready. But it looks like Tamar’s bestie and “Tiny Tonight” co-host Tameka “Tiny” Harris may have already beaten her to the punch.
Tiny may have slipped up and spilled the beans because after telling the interviewer at Hip Hollywood that she knows the baby’s gender but can’t reveal it, she then slips up and says she’s seen “his little face,” when she was talking about seeing Tamar’s sonogram photo.
After making the big slip up, Tiny then goes on to say that she thinks Tamar will make a great mom because she hasn’t always been sold on having kids:
“I just think she’s going to be an awesome mom because she’s never honestly wanted to have kids for a long time. So just recently, she just started to want to have kids. And I just think it’s an amazing turn around for her. And she’s very much about self. She’s used to catering to herself because that’s all she has. So it’s going to be interesting to see her put herself behind the baby. That’s going to be very interesting.”

Bruno Mars Covers GQ

Singer/songwriter Bruno Mars covers the April 2013 issue of GQ magazine. In thearticle, Bruno talks about his new album, Unorthodox Jukebox, which is mostly about sex.
“It feels good to sing about [sex],” he tells GQ. “It feels… sexy. It puts you in a sexy frame of mind. It feels good to pro-ject. Sex is a great party starter.”
On the hidden sexual innuendos in the song “Locked Out of Heaven”, Bruno says, “Pretty awesome, right?” he says. “The verses to me are what really makes that song: Swimming in your water is something spiritual.”
He’s not very smart, though.
The writer points out that ‘Heaven’ is a metaphor for a woman’s vagina, “In a fairly direct anatomical way.”
Bruno responds: “You can’t use big words with me.” Then he queries, “What does anatomical mean?”
GQ is on newsstands now.

PHOTOS: PORSHA STEWART STOPS BY SIRIUSXM + SPEAKS ON WHETHER HUSBAND IS CONTROLLING OR NOT

‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ star Porsha Stewart visited SiriusXM studios on Monday (March 18) in New York City wearing a cute bun up do.
The animated personality also stopped by Bravo’s “Watch What Happens” over the weekend and spoke about a big topic that ‘Housewives’ fans have been discussing about the latest episode;whether or not her husband former footballer Kordell Stewart is too controlling.
In the newest episode of ATL Housewives, Kordell and Porsha were discussing having children but the convo quickly turned sour when he pretty much said thatshe would have to choose between a career or a home life. She couldn’t have both. When Bravo’s Andy brought up the issue, Porsha had this to say:
Well that was a very real situation we were going through. Yes you would have liked to talk about a lot of things before you get married but that was one of the things that I changed. When I first got married I wanted to be home every day, you know Breakfast, Dinner . But now I’m deciding that I want to have a career and be a home wife. [ VIEW VIDEO ]

Hadiya Pendleton’s family invited to the White House for annual Easter Egg Roll

President Barack Obama hasn’t forgotten 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton, the Chicago honors student who was shot and killed by a gang banger in January.
CBS Chicago reports that Pendleton’s mother mother Cleopatra Cowley-Pendleton and younger brother Nathaniel, 10, have accepted President Obama’s invite to the annual Easter egg roll on the front lawn of the White House on April 1st.
First Lady Michelle Obama attended Pendleton’s funeral and Obama invited her parents to attend the State of the Union speech last month.
Pendleton was shot to death as she stood with friends in a North Kenwood park not far from the Obamas’ upscale home.
Two gang members were arrested and charged with her murder.

What’s wrong with Kim Kardashian?

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian was spotted returning to LAX from Atlanta on Monday (March 18). Kardashian, 32, walked the red carpet at Tyler Perry’s Atlanta premiere of his new movie “Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor,” which she makes a cameo appearance in.
After walking the red carpet at a theater in a suburb of Atlanta, Kardashian made a beeline for E! News — the only media outlet she spoke to.
When she was asked why her belly bump suddenly showed up on the day of the premiere, she said, “It’s kinda popped. Can’t really hide it.”
“I play a marriage counselor, ironically,” she said, describing her role in the film. “My role is like the comic relief of the film.”
After the long flight back to LA, Kardashian looked haggard and exhausted as she stepped off the plane at LAX. Just last week Kim’s doctor told her to take it easy after her miscarriage scare. She should heed his advice.
From the NY Daily News:
While she’s come under scrutiny in the past because of her love life, Kardashian can relate to the film’s focus.
“Usually when someone talks about relationships and the temptations and the struggles in relationships, it’s usually the guy doing wrong,” she explained. “This is flipped, it’s the girls and the temptations that girls have and it’s really real.”

New Music: Beyonce – Bow Down/ I Been On

Folks who have been waiting on some new, unreleased music from Beyonce will be thrilled that a new Baddie track has made it’s way on the Internet today.  The song, titled “Bow Down/I Been On” is produced by Hit-Boy, and sounds like it’s just a talk-sh-t type of track meant to get a few people talking before she drops that real ish.
During the first part of the cocky record, Beyonce sings:
I know when you were little girls, you dreamed of being in my world
Don’t forget it, don’t forget it, Respect that, Bow down b-tches
I took some time to live my life, but don’t think I’m just his little wife
Don’t get it twisted, get it twisted, this my sh-t, bow down b-tches
From here, the beat switches to the track used in her London 02 Arena World Tour commercial, while Bey talks about being about that life and smacking tricks up. “I heard your boo was talking lip, I told my crew to smack that trick!.” I literally had to clutch my pearls while envisioning Bey in the studio, rapping some of these lyrics, while wearing her gold teeth, “ratchet” earrings and a fitted.
Before the track ends, she uses a chopped and screwed effect on her voice as she reminisces about wearing dookie braids and being in The Geto Boys, “Put Me Down” video. “I was in that Willie D. video when I was about 14, looking crazy.”

Nicki Minaj Tones It Down For Elle Magazine’s April 2013 Cover: ‘I Felt Naked’

It’s been the year of revamping for Nicki Minaj, who recently decided to tone down her look while swapping out her wig-maker Terrence Davidson for veteran hairstylist Oscar James. Now she’s taking the ‘new Nicki’ to magazine covers.
As the cover girl of next month’s Elle Magazine, she’s giving Storm from X-Men tease in a black Tom Ford fit and bleach blonde messy hair.  Inside, she dishes to Elle that she felt so vulnerable in front of the cameras once she ditched the bold colors, patterned leggings and crazy wigs, lashes and make up. She also talked about being bullied as a child and her plans to take over the world, while continuing to remind the ladies to treat themselves like a boss.
On her toned-down look
When I saw myself with barely any makeup at, it was such a… like, I’m so, so attached to my pink lipstick, it’s hard. I feel that it’s become a part of me. To go in front of the camera, without pink lips or big ol’ crazy lashes— you know, nothing— I felt naked. It was scary! So this photoshoot was a real accomplishment in my eyes.
On being bullied during her childhood
I went through a lot of bullying early on. Girls made my life a living hell. We had come to America from a different country. My brother and I had accents. It was very tough. So I’ve always put up this wall— it was a self-defense mechanism growing up— because I was almost expecting people to attack me. And I still have it. It’s sad.
Her Advice to the Ladies to Gain Respect
My advice to women in general: Even if you’re doing a nine-to-five job, treat yourself like a boss. Not arrogant, but be sure of what you want— and don’t allow people to run anything for you without your knowledge. You want everyone to know, Okay, I can’t play games with her. I have to do right by this woman. That’s what it’s all about.
On Her Plans For world Domination
My goal in the beginning was to buy my mother a house. Now I realize, Okay, if I really focus and become a key player in business, then I can build an empire. I’m thinking of a legacy that I can be proud of and wealth that my grandchildren can use to go to college. So world domination— in terms of providing for my family— is absolutely my goal.
The issue hits shelves on March 18!

Olivia Snags Top 10 Spot On Itunes After Recording Erica Mena’s Track

What is going on here? Erica Mena has to be somewhere fuming!
Just over a month ago, Love and Hip Hop’s Erica Mena dropped a heavily auto-tuned single titled, “Where Do I Go From Here,” which received a pretty decent reception, however, things got real interesting when Olivia (who has the same manager) decided she wanted the track for herself.  If you missed it, on Monday night’s episode of L&HH, Olivia recorded the same song and now that the full version has been released, it’s grabbed a Top 10 spot on the R&B/Soul charts on Itunes.
This happens in music all of the time.  Years ago, there was a little controversy after Christina Milian and Teairra Mari recorded the same track, “Diamonds” and just recently Leona Lewis revealed that she had recorded “We Found Love” way before Rihanna’s version was released.
Cold World.
Listen to Olivia’s version of “Where Do I Go From Here” below:

Just in case you missed it, take a listen to Erica’s version below:

Michelle Obama Covers Vogue, President Obama Admits She Upgraded Him

First Lady Michelle Obama is featured in Vogue Magazine once again, this time as the cover subject for their April 2013 issue.  Although she graces the cover solo, the accompanying article is definitely a family feature as President Obama also strikes a pose for his wife’s photo shoot and drops in on her interview.
Inside, the couple take turns dishing on what they’ve learned from each other throughout their 20 year marriage, as well as reveal how they were able to keep their relationship intact while taking on the pressures of being a First Family.  Michelle admits her mama, who lives in the White House with them, keeps the both of them in check.  President Obama also says that Michelle upgraded him “like Beyoncé in that song.”  Ha!
Peep the highlights below:
On preventing their political rise to fame from shaking up their relationship
President Obama
: We were pretty much who we are by the time I hit the national scene. We didn’t grow up or come of age under a spotlight. We were anonymous folks. I was a state senator, but nobody knows who a state senator is. So most of our 30s and 40s were as a typical middle-class family. . . . That really didn’t change until I was 45 years old. And there’s something about having lived a normal life and raised kids. We had to figure out how to make a mortgage, payin’ the bills, goin’ to Target, and freakin’ out when . . . the woman who’s looking after your girls while Michelle’s working suddenly decides she’s quittin’. . . . All those experiences made us who we were, so that by the time this thing hit, it was hard for us to. . . .
Michelle: Be different people. And I think we are accountable to each other for being who we are. There’s no way I could walk in the door and be somebody different from who I’ve been with this man for 20-some-odd years. He would laugh me out of the house! And we are also blessed with families who hold us accountable.[...]“My mother doesn’t do interviews. but let me tell you: She is not long on pretense. She’s the first one to remind us who we are. And it’s been very helpful having her living with us. . . . We can check reality against her sensibilities.
Michelle On President Obama’s laid back personality
I’ve tried to explain this guy to people over the years, but there is a calmness to him that is just . . . it has been a consistent part of his character. Which is why I think he is uniquely suited for this challenge—because there is a steadiness. And maybe it’s because of his Hawaiian upbringing—you go to Hawaii and it’s Chillsville; maybe it was because his life growing up was a little less steady, so he had to create that steadiness for himself . . . but he is that person, in all situations, over the course of these last four years, from watching the highs and lows of health-care reform to dealing with two very contentious, challenging elections. . . . The most you get from him is ‘You know, that is gonna be tough. . . .’ There are a lot of times I can’t tell how his day went. Unless I really dig down. Because when he walks through that door, he can let go of it all. And it just doesn’t penetrate his soul. And that’s the beautiful thing for me to see as his wife. That was one of the things I was worried about: How would politics affect this very decent, genuine, noble individual? And there is just something about his spirit that allows all that stuff to stay on the outside.
Michelle and President Obama on what they’ve learned from each other
Michelle: Well, patience and calm I’m borrowing. Or trying to mirror. I’ve learned that from my husband, that sort of, you know, ability to not get too high or too low with changes and bumps in the road . . . to do more breathing in and just going with it. I’m learning that every day. And to the extent that I’ve made changes in my life, it’s just sort of stepping back and seeing a change not as something to guard against but as a wonderful addition . . . that can make life fun and unexpected. Oftentimes, it’s the way we react to change that is the thing that determines the overall experience. So I’ve learned to let go and enjoy it and take it in and not take things too personally.”
President Obama: And what Michelle has done is to remind me every day of the virtues of order. Being on time. Hanging up your clothes. Being intentional about planning time with your kids. In some ways I think . . . we’re very different people, and some of that’s temperamental, some of it is how we grew up. Michelle grew up in a model nuclear family: mom, dad, brother. . . . She just has these deep, wonderful roots. When you go back to Chicago, she’s got family everywhere. . . . There’s just a warmth and a sense of belonging. And you know, that’s not how I grew up.
I had this far-flung family, father left at a very young age, a stepfather who ended up passing away as well. My mother was this wonderful spirit, and she was adventurous but not always very well organized. And, so, what that means is that I’m more comfortable with change and adventure and trying new things, but the downside of it is, sometimes—particularly when we were early on in our marriage—I wasn’t always thinking about the fact that my free-spirited ways might be having an impact on the person I’m with. And conversely, early in our marriage, Michelle provided this sense of stability and clarity and certainty about things, but sometimes she resisted trying something new just because it might seem a little scary or push her out of her comfort zone. I think what we’ve learned from each other is that sense of. . . .[Michelle: "Balance."] There’s no doubt I’m a better man having spent time with Michelle. I would never say that Michelle’s a better woman, but I will say she’s a little more patient.
President Obama on Michelle Upgrading Him
Michelle’s like Beyoncé in that song, ‘Let me upgrade ya!’ She upgraded me.
