Chris Brown Sentenced To 5 Years Probation; Protection Order Not Lifted
Judge Patricia Schnegg said during the sentencing, “I am not immune to the chatter on the airwaves.” It’s unclear if she was saying that she’s heard reports that Brown and Rihanna are still talking … or if she was just saying he needs to be careful because she watches TV and reads TMZ. To us, it sounded like the former.
Down to business, the judge sentenced Brown to perform hard labor at the Commonwealth Catholic Charities in Richmond, VA, where he must also take a 52-week domestic violence course.
The judge ruled Brown — who pleaded guilty to felony assault — must stay 100 yards away from Rihanna, unless they are both at an entertainment-related event, in which case he must stay 10 yards away. The protective order lasts 5 years.
He must provide DNA samples as requested by authorities.
Brown must also keep in touch with the Probation Department and is subject to search and seizure 24/7 for the next 5 years. He can’t own any dangerous weapons, including guns or knives.

Rihanna Goes Back to Whorin’ For CoverGirl
Less than two days after Judge Schnegg confirmed Chris Brown’s plea deal in the controversial felony assault case involving Rihanna, sources say CoverGirl is reinstating an ad it pulled this Spring.
News of Rihanna being reinstated at CoverGirl follows the pulling of a mascara tinged ad deemed to be in “poor taste” once a battered and bruised photograph of Rihanna was unleashed by TMZ.
According to TMZ, Rihanna’s CoverGirl ads are running with the words “turn up the light in your eyes”.
As previously reported on Singersroom, Rihanna was part of CoverGirl’s late 2008 push for its ‘Exact Eyelights Mascara’. Originally reported to be spread across a bevy of magazines and television spots, CoverGirl had touted ‘Exact Eyelights Mascara’ as “mascara with light-reflecting metallics and a hint of tint that makes your unique eye color 4x brighter vs. bare lashes”.

Tameka Foster’s BFF Speaks Out
NYEISHA DEWITT: Let me first say that I hope Tameka and Usher can salvage things as a couple. I’ve known Tameka since I was in middle school and she was in high school, and we’ve been friends since. It’s not that I have to defend her or speak on her behalf as if she’s done something wrong, but I simply want people to know everything they read about her isn’t true. It hurts me to read the lies that people write and say about her.
ESSENCE.COM: Is it true she first learned that Usher filed for divorce after reading about it?
DEWITT: She didn’t know that he was going to file. Of course, she knew that there were challenges in their relationship and had been some discord since March and was aware there were some things that needed to be worked through. But did she know that divorce was imminent? No. It was a total surprise.
ESSENCE.COM: Was Tameka also caught off guard by the images of Usher and Def Jam’s Grace Miguel?
DEWITT: I don’t know what it is or isn’t. What I admire about Tameka is that, despite all the gossip, she isn’t bitter or hardened by it. I don’t know how she does it especially with children [from a previous relationship] old enough to read the lies that are written. It’s like having to keep your hands at your side while someone repeatedly punches you in your face.

Ciara & Rick Ross Get Cover Of Rap-Up Mag.
RICK ROSS is on the flip cover. And the larger-than-life MC also talks 50 Cent, Eminem, and the rapper who he named his latest car after.
On why Eminem never gets involved in 50 Cent’s beefs: “Because he knows [50] is a monkey. He’s Eminem’s personal monkey. Eminem is a genius for signing the monkey. Once Eminem is through with him and Jimmy [Iovine]’s through with him, he may end up on Maybach Music and be my monkey.”
On those who call Kanye West flamboyant: “He’s supposed to be. What is he supposed to do, not be flamboyant, not be fly, not be arrogant? Why not? I feel like why should another ni**a be insecure about another man. That’s a man; he got his own lane.”
On his could-have-been football career: “When I started playing football in little league, all the small dudes could play, but I was too heavy. I was so focused that by the time I got to the eleventh grade, I was a blue-chip All-American. Over two years, I went from being nobody to being considered one of the top three linemen in Florida.”
Ciara is covering the upcoming issue of Rap-Up magazine in a festive photoshoot. Here’s some quotables from the issue:
On her trust issues: “It’s very hard to trust people because you really never know their motives. I’ve seen it enough times to where the person can be really cool and seem like your closest friend and they are doing something you never would imagine or expect from them, whether it’s talking about you or being around you to get information about you.”
On fellow ATLien Keri Hilson: “I knew her back when she was really trying to get in pocket and become an artist, and I know she had been trying way longer than I had back then. Back in the day, I used to ask her to sing for me. I forgot what song she used to sing, but vocally I thought she was crazy. As a writer, I thought she was dope. We did one song together on my first album. That was back when we were kinda around each other.”
On Beyoncé comparisons: “I know what work I put in to what I do and I know where I get my inspiration from and it’s definitely not the references that they put up on the Internet. People live for it. Negative energy travels faster than positive energy. Whoever it was, for them to dig deep down and find all those references, that’s ridiculous.”
Foxy Brown Was on Some V.I.P in the Joint
A day after reports leaked online which said Foxy Brown received celebrity treatment while serving her prison sentence last year, a corrections spokesman has denied these claims.
Spokesperson Stephen Morello has responded to the allegations that Foxy was able to wear Gucci sneakers in jail and received media interviews.
Morello said yesterday (June 21) that Brown’s 2008 jailhouse interview and photo shoot with a hip-hop magazine, her sporting Gucci sneakers and a Fendi scarf in the prison, and purported extended visits in her cell with a chaplain fell within normal guidelines. “Inmates were entitled to wear their own clothing,” he explained.
“That’s her choice. The interviews were approved by the [Department of Correction's] Department of Media Services. We do it as a matter of routine.” He noted that The Post has conducted many interviews in city jails and that Brown’s lasted for about one hour, which is standard procedure. (New York Post)
Reports spread online over the weekend which said Brown received special treatment.
She spent her time prancing around in Gucci sneakers and a Fendi scarf, and when those got soiled, her jailhouse entourage brought her clean ones. Princess Foxy even got some free press for her new album and guards organized a photo shoot and interview with a magazine that featured Brown in time for the album’s release.
Some people within the Department of Corrections are furious that guards jumped at the opportunity to be lackeys to Brown behind bars. And they say it’s not the first time a star gets an easy time behind bars, courtesy of corrections officers. (NBC Chicago)
Earlier this year, the rapper inked a blog entry which spoke on her experiences being locked up at Riker’s Island prison.
“On Riker’s Island,” she wrote. “Looking at an eight-month bid. Since Shyne got 9, hip-hop’s been on trial…It was during those 23 hours, EVERYDAY, that I looked long and hard at myself. Who I was…from young Inga to Foxy Brown to a number on a docket…I learned to be grateful…grateful to be given another chance. And now I just got to show and prove…not to the world, but to myself.” (Global Grind)
The rapper served just over eight months of a one-year sentence prior to being released on April 18, 2008.
“This is a big day for me,” Brown told SOHH. “To have everybody here that I love, my whole family, the whole Brooklyn, the officers that took care of me at Rikers. Eight months to the day, I remember going in August and I said when I come out, I’m coming out even better. And I’m back baby, it’s a wrap.” (SOHH)
