Yes, seriously. The Wranglers extended a formal, six-figure contract offer to Owens a month ago, according to Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News, and their owner Jon Frankel is now in serious discussion with the receiver and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. The Wranglers’ website has announced that the offer to Owens includes a compensation package of $250,000 up to $500,000.
Frankel told the Dallas paper he talked to a member of Rosenhaus’ agency today and was told Owens is “significantly closer” to signing with the Wranglers than he was a month ago.
Owens, who turned 38 earlier this month, has not played in the NFL this season. He had 72 catches for 983 yards last year for the Cincinnati Bengals, then underwent surgery for a torn ACL in April 2011. He was cleared to play this season but remained unsigned.
