Android Flash Player back in Google Play UK to support BBC iPlayer

inShare After being unceremoniously dropped from the store earlier this month, Adobe's mobile Flash Player has returned to the Google Play store in the UK. According to BBC News, Flash's encore is the result of pressure from the BBC and "strategic partners" that rely on Flash for their Android apps. Perhaps the most notable app is BBC iPlayer, which requires Flash to play content.
The BBC says it's in the process of updating its app to stream video through other means, but until it does, Adobe will continue offering the download for UK customers only. Flash Player supports devices running Android 2.2 - 4.0, so users lucky enough to run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will be unable to stream iPlayer content until the BBC gets up to speed.

Samsung trumps Apple in Tokyo court

Apple has failed to extend its US legal victory over Samsung to Japan, after a judge in Tokyo rejected a similar patent-infringement claim to that won by Apple in California.
The judge ruled on Friday that the South Korean technology giant had not violated Apple patents by copying a feature of the US group’s iPhone and iPad mobile devices that allows them to synchronise music and video files with computers.

Samsung welcomed the Japanese ruling, saying it confirmed its position that its products do not infringe Apple’s intellectual property. Samsung shares closed up 1.5 per cent, erasing earlier losses, as investors took comfort from the latest court decision.
The suit was part of a web of patent claims launched by both companies in courts across the world. Last week, a California jury awarded Apple $1bn damages after it found that Samsung had unfairly copied a number of its design and user-interface innovations.
Apple had also sued Samsung in Samsung’s home country, with less success. A South Korean court dismissed Apple’s claim that Samsung had copied the iPhone’s design, though it ruled that both companies had infringed patents in other areas. Sales of more than a dozen Apple and Samsung tablets and smartphone models have been banned.
The Japanese suit was more narrowly focused, targeting only the synchronisation feature, but the potential impact was significant. The iPhone has been the top-selling smartphone in Japan for most of the period since its introduction but Samsung’s Galaxy devices have been making inroads. The Galaxy SIII displaced the iPhone 4S at the top of the sales rankings immediately after its launch in late June.
Apple had been asking for just Y100m ($1.3m) in damages, a reflection in part of the small compensation awards typically granted by Japanese courts.
It is not clear how important Japan is for Samsung as a single market, as Samsung does not provide sales figures for the country. But analysts estimate that Asia excluding China accounts for about one-fifth of Samsung’s mobile phone shipments.
Analysts cautioned against reading too much into the latest court ruling. “There are dozens of court cases around the world involving their patent disputes,” said Park Young-joo, analyst at Woori Investment & Securities. “The rulings made in the three countries so far are unlikely to affect the other pending cases.” Mr Park predicted that it would take three to four years for all the cases to be resolved.
He added that the court cases probably would not affect Samsung’s future earnings a great deal because Apple’s lawsuits target old models and the Korean group is already designing its new products and working round the problematic features.
Samsung on Wednesday unveiled the world’s first smartphone running on the Windows 8 operating system at the IFA trade fair in Berlin. It also launched a new version of its popular Galaxy Note smartphone, running Google’s Android platform.

Samsung Galaxy S III sales skyrocket following Apple patent trial verdict

Now that the guilty verdict has been handed down against Samsung in its patent lawsuit against (Cr)Apple, it’s starting to look like a big “thank you” may also be in order. Not from Apple, however, as Sammy might just be the one to get the last laugh here.
According to Trip Chowdhry, the managing director of equity research at Global Equities Research, sales of the Galaxy S III saw an immediate and “significant” increase in sales following the delivery of the jury’s verdict. Apparently, the analyst made his rounds to several retail locations after the news broke, last Friday night.
He went to five AT&T, five Sprint, three Verizon, and three Costco stores.

Since the verdict, the Samsung Galaxy S III outsold the Apple iPhone 4S at all five Sprint and three Verizon locations that the analyst visited. None of the Verizon stores and just two of the Sprint locations had sold out of the model. Meanwhile, out of three Costco stores visited by the analyst, two were sold out of the AT&T and T-Mobile models of the Samsung Galaxy S III while the third store was sold out of the AT&T variant but had the T-Mobile model in stock.

So, why did people rush out to get the Galaxy S III? Did they assume that the verdict could possibly lead to a ban on the device here in the United States? Were they taking a stand in the #BoycottApple war? Or is it all just a big coincidence?
At any rate, it’s starting to look like Samsung won’t have any troubles paying back that 1.05 billion dollar fine, should they end up losing all of their appeals in court. According to the analyst, expect to see the two companies come to some sort of cross-licensing agreement. We’ll believe that one when we see it.

Married Atlanta Pastor Arrested for Allegedly Infecting Women With HIV Virus

A handsome, charismatic preacher was busted recently for allegedly passing the HIV virus to unsuspecting female church members during sexual liaisons.
Pastor Craig Lamar Davis, who is married, is the former pastor of Full Gospel Baptist Church in Atlanta, where he preached rousing sermons and dispensed advice to lonely women. But Pastor Davis was allegedly passing on more than advice and counseling in his role as a spiritual leader.

The pastor was arrested for reckless conduct after police found that he was sleeping with several women with whom he was not married. A woman by the name of Ronita McAfee says that she met the pastor on Facebook and began sleeping with him.
Ronita says that she became concerned when one of the pastor’s ex-girlfriends called her to say that she had HIV. She claims that the pastor then counseled her … and told her to get tested. Davis then says that she noticed that the pastor himself was not interested in getting tested, even though she had also contracted HIV. This is what prompted her to seek out a warrant for his arrest.

According to public records, Pastor Lamar was booked into the Fulton County jail in July for disorderly conduct in 2 separate counties. He was released on bond.

American Idol Nervous About Hiring All Black Judges Panel

According to TMZ reports:

Nicki Minaj may well become a judge on “American Idol,” but it will be at the expense of Mariah Carey, who we’re told hung up the phone when she was told Nicki was the top candidate.
Sources connected with “Idol” tell TMZ … Mariah was led to believe she would be the only woman on the judge’s panel. Choosing Nicki would not only crush that expectation, it would add insult to injury because Nicki (29) is a lot younger than Mariah (42).
As for the composition of the judge’s panel, we’re told by no means is it a done deal. There are 2 scenarios being played out. First, it’s unclear if Randy Jackson will come back as a judge or a mentor. If he leaves the judge’s panel, there will be another spot to fill.
The second scenario … we’re told some of the honchos believe it’s a mistake to have 2 women and a man on the panel, and a 4th male judge would be necessary.
As for who’s still in the running, we’re told Brad Paisley, Keith Urban and Enrique Iglesias are leading the pack.
And there’s one other thing. Sources connected with the show say they’re worried … if the judge’s end up being Mariah, Nicki and Randy … middle America might not welcome the blackout.

Vanessa Bryant: ‘I’m Sad My ‘Championship’ Comments Are Being Misconstrued’

Last week, she caught a lot of flack after she was featured in a NY Magazine article focused on the wives of NBA stars and during the interview made a comment that ruffled more than a few feathers:

“I certainly would not want to be married to somebody that can’t win championships. If you’re sacrificing time away from my family and myself for the benefit of winning championships, then winning a championship should happen every single year.’

After being slammed by critics, who wrote her off as being a gold digger who would leave Kobe as soon as he decided to retire, Vanessa released a statement to TMZ that read:

I’m sad to hear that comments in my New York  Magazine interview are being misconstrued and taken out of context. I have and will continue to support my husband’s dreams. I have been with Kobe for 13 years. I accepted his marriage proposal PRIOR to him winning any of his 5 championships with his teammates.
For anyone to think otherwise is wrong. It is not about being married to a ‘winner’ it is about our sacrifice as a family.

Coincidentally, Kobe proposed to Vanessa a month before he won his first championship, during the play offs. He was a 21 year old NBA champ by the time they married.
But don’t get it twisted, there is certainly nothing wrong with wanting to be with a ‘winner’…

“Evelyn will not tolerate being cheated on and being physically attacked and she has washed her hands of Chad for good. Sheesh! This was hard to watch. Last night, on HBO’s Hard Knocks, which follows the trials and tribulations of the Miami Dolphins, Chad Johnson was released from the team after his domestic violence incident involving Evelyn Lozada. Considering this just happened on Sunday, this is the most reality you’ll ever get on television. EVER. Before, Chad walked into Coach Philbin’s office, his coach could be heard on the phone telling someone: ‘This Summer he was tweeting stuff he shouldn’t have been, then we had a press conference where he goes off on a tirade, ‘F this and F that’ and now we have this thing. He hasn’t been around us a long time. His temperament isn’t great for us. When things are good, it’s good but when things aren’t so good, he can be a tad… you know’. Although Chad reminded his coach, ‘I’ve never been in trouble. Ever’, he was still given the pink slip: I don’t know if this is working for the benefit of you, me, the Miami Dolphins or anybody else. I think you are a good person and I acknowledge people make mistakes. [...] Where we are as a program, and where we are headed, I just don’t see the mesh right now. I wish it was different and I could be more encouraging but I just think this is best for us to part ways at this time. I’m not trying to flex my muscles, ‘I’m the head coach and let’s make an example of Chad Johnson‘. It’s not about that. It’s more about how you fit in, how we fit in together and where this thing is headed. I just don’t see it being what I thought it would be and what I hoped it would be. Nicki Minaj Brings Out Foxy Brown @ The Roseland Ballroom

After their surprise performance at Hot 97′s Summer Jam didn’t go as planned, Nicki Minaj and Foxy Brown united on stage last night at the Roseland Ballroom.  The performance was part of free show put together by Nicki Minaj and sponsored by Pepsi as a ‘make good’ for her pulling out of Summer Jam after she was disrespected by Peter Rosenberg.
Almost two hours into the show, Foxy hit the stage showing mad love as she performed the ‘BK Anthem’ and two additional tracks from the ‘Broken Silence’ album. Nicki, meanwhile, gave her the ultimate compliment while disregarding her rivals,  ‘There aren’t any other female rappers who have opened doors for me than you’…and Lauryn Hill’.  Foxy looked absolutely stunned and taken aback as she was leaving the stage and fans kept chanting her name. She promised them that she would be back out very soon.  [...and As happy as I was to see Foxy, it looked as though she hasn't evolved since the 90's.]
Other surprises of the night included an appearance by Killer Cam and Drake who performed ‘Up All Night’ and ‘Make Me Proud’ . Lil Wayne was the final surprise, appearing on stage for ‘Take It To The Head’, before performing ‘The Motto’ with Drake.
