Jay-Z Selling His Shares Of The Brooklyn Nets In Order To Represent NBA Players Through Roc Nation Sports

Entertainment mogul and rapper Jay-Z has started the process of divesting his small share of ownership with the Brooklyn Nets to extend his Roc Nation Sports representation business into basketball, sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Jay-Z – whose real name is Shawn Carter – owns less than 1 percent of the Nets, but has been a central public figure in the franchise’s marketing and move from New Jersey to Brooklyn.

Selling his share of the Nets is a necessary prelude for Jay-Z to obtain his National Basketball Players Association certification as an agent.

NBA rules mandate that no one individual affiliated with a player representation company can have an ownership stake with an NBA team.

Jay-Z’s Roc Nation company has partnered with Creative Artists Agency (CAA) to launch a sports representation business that recently secured New York Yankees star Robinson Cano.

The process is expected to be completed in time for Roc Nation to compete for players entering the June NBA draft, but there’s no guarantee of the timing, sources said. Those within Roc Nation and the CAA alliance aren’t “chasing a clock on this,” one source said. “This isn’t about one draft, but taking the long view of the business.”

Rival agents are anxious over the possibilities of Jay-Z on the recruiting trail, believing the lure of his iconic business and cultural standing will have a major impact on attracting top prospects and current league stars.

JAY-Z & ROC NATION INK DEAL WITH UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP

The sealed deal with Universal Music comes a week after Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter launched new sports agency, Roc Nation Sports –– a collaboration with the Creative Artists Agency, that has already snagged New York Yankees veteran second baseman Robinson Cano.

The business move is a return to Universal Music for Jay-Z, who once served as president of Island Def Jam Music Group, in addition to being one of the label’s recording artists from 2004 to 2007.

Hova joined forces –– in order to launch Roc Nation –– with Live Nation, shortly after his contract expired with Universal. But maybe Live Nation didn’t fork over the 300 million that Jay anticipated and, instead, inked a multiyear deal under the Universal umbrella.

This, of course, means that all albums under the Roc –– now five-years old –– (from Jay to Cole to Rihanna and everyone else wedged in between) will release through UMG. Jay says that the deal will allow for Roc Nation to “continue to operate as an independent label with the strength, power and reach of the best major.”

Alicia Keys Says Jay-Z Didn’t Like Her Son Egpyt Kissing Blue Ivy

During an appearance on Wendy Williams yesterday Alicia was asked if she ever takes her son Egypt to hang out with King Beysus Christ and her Camel and their bouncing baby Blue Ivy. In her response, Alicia let loose that the two privileged tykes have indeed spent some play time together, but based on a story she told Egpyt and Blue becoming BFFs might not be in the cards:
“Egypt kissed Blue, and I don’t think Jay liked it very much,” she said. “He called my husband and he was like, ‘Watch your son.’”
Hovi is keepin’ a close eye on his daughter, he must know that his shady womanizing past is coming back to haunt him at some point. Looks like Bey gave birth to your karma Mr. Carter!
The “Girl On Fire” also let us know that her hubby Swizz Beatz has her face tattooed on his arm.
“This might sound strange, but I think one of my favorite things he ever got me was a tattoo of me (face) on his arm. It’s so beautiful and he mixed it with some of his favorite artists and it’s so pretty”
You what they say about getting someone tattooed on you, it’s just the beginning of the end. Guess we’ll have to stay tuned to see how long Swizz and Mrs. Off-Key last together.

The "Mr. Right" L.A. boy band, comprised of Prodigy, Princeton, Ray Ray and Roc Royal, has all the young girls going nuts for them.  And even a few cougars.  And while being managed by Vince Herbert, the group has embarked on their own tour, opened up for the Scream Tour, and performed at the official Inaugural Ball.

They’re saying this is what caused the power surge that knocked out half the lights in the New Orleans Superdome after Beyonce’s spectacular halftime performance Sunday night. Kelly Rowland’s boyfriend/manager, Tim Weatherspoon, gave Instagram users an insider’s behind-the-scenes perspective by snapping the above pic of rapper Jay Z bear hugging his wife, Beyonce, after her performance.
The official word from the power company is that the power outage came from the Superdome side. Entergy New Orleans tweeted: “Power issue at the Super Dome appears to be in the customer’s side. Entergy is providing power to the Dome.”

 Kelly Rowland doesn’t seem too thrilled while checking her messages on her phone in her dressing room after the show.

Oprah Winfrey made the cover of Forbes

Rapper Jay Z is somewhere steaming over the fact that failing media honcho Oprah made the cover of Forbes‘ $126 Billion cover — and he didn’t.
Winfrey, 58, shares the Forbes “$126 Billion” cover with Jay Z’s good pal billionaire investor Warren Buffet, 82, and Microsoft founder Bill Gates, 56. Jay Z, who is not quite billionaire status — shared the Forbes cover of the “400 Richest People in the World” with Buffet in 2010. Jigga, 43, has not been on the cover since.

Winfrey has caught a lot of flack for using her billions to fund building a school in Africa, but the former talk show maven shoulders on. In 2010 Winfrey hosted 7 of her students who took a tour of Boston College for 2 weeks. Winfrey introduced the “magnificent seven” — as she calls them — to her well-heeled friends, including President Obama at the White House.
But despite the school’s success stories, it’s apparent that Oprah has never gotten over the criticism from American blacks: she has plans to build another school — this time in the U.S.

As you may already know Bu is VP at Def Jam Records, where he A&R’d Kanye and Jay Z‘s Watch The Throne album. He also dates Diana Ross‘ daughter Tracee Ellis Ross.

Jason Geter, who was recently signed by Epic Records as A&R consultant, is an industry executive, broker, consultant, fashion designer, music publisher and movie producer. He has managed and guided the careers of Clifford “T.I.” Harris, B.o.B., Big Boi (of the legendary group Outkast), Pac DIv, DJ Drama, 8Ball & MJG, amongst many others.

 ay-Z and Beyonce were spotted going out for dinner at Caviar Kaspia’s in Paris, France today (it’s around 8 p.m. in Paris as I type this post). Beyonce wore a tight pair of leather pants with a red jacket and strappy open toe heels.

 Jay Z was not in a good mood, but Beyonce always brightens up when she sees the cameras. The couple left their baby, Blue Ivy, at the hotel.
