Brazilian Soccer Star Bruno Turns Himself In For Missing Woman Case

Fugitive Flamengo goalkeeper Bruno has handed himself over to the authorities, after a warrant was issued earlier today in Rio de Janeiro state for his arrest.

Rio Homicide Division delegate Felipe Ettore released a statement informing that the ‘keeper handed himself in to police in Andarai, in the northern zone of Rio de Janeiro. Ettore added that Bruno, who was accompanied by friend and fellow suspect Luiz Henrique Ferreira Romao, known as Macarrao, was suspected of ordering the kidnap of ex-girlfriend Eliza Samudio.

The crime itself, according to Ettore is alleged to have been carried out by Macarrao and an unnamed 17-year-old.

Eliza Samudio went missing a month ago and authorities believe that she was kidnapped and murdered, although police are yet to find a body. Around the time she disappeared Samudio had renewed efforts to force the goalkeeper into a DNA test, in order to determine the parentage of her four-month old baby.

Bruno had an affair with young student Eliza Samudio in 2009, allegedly impregnating her in the process. The 25-year-old model disappeared nearly a month ago, and “traces of what might be blood” were discovered in one of Bruno’s vehicles.

Bruno is said to have forced Samudio to take an abortion drug in 2009, and one outlet reported that the missing woman claimed to have received frightening threats from the soccer star. “If I kill you and throw you somewhere, you’re not going to be found,” he allegedly said.

Bruno Souza, the goalkeeper for Brazil’s league champion Flamengo team, was ordered arrested on Tuesday after his teenage cousin said he helped kidnap Samudio.
