Cee Lo Green covers the latest issue of JET (available March 12). The soulful musician and The Voice judge earned $20 million last year, thanks in part to the success of “F**k You”, which Cee Lo says is completely ironic in the cover story, “Green Machine”:
“The success of the song is completely ironic to me because I just wanted to be dropped from my label,” Green reveals. “Atlantic just didn’t understand me, even after I was signed. So I was like, ‘What’s the most ridiculous thing we can do?’ I couldn’t believe they liked the song. I was trying to offend them.”
In addition to striking endorsement deals with Pretzel M&M’s, Duracell and 7UP, Cee Lo recently announced his Las Vegas residency at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino and forthcoming book as well as his follow-up to The Lady Killer, which is slated to be released in the coming months titled Cee-Lo Green… Is Everybody’s Brother in addition to the Goodie Mob reunion album, Age Against the Machine, which is documented in the British reality series, Cee Lo Takes the U.K.
