Brazilian soccer star Bruno has been charged with murdering his 25-year-old ex-lover, Eliza Samudio, the New York Times reports. Since 2006, he has been the goalkeeper of Brazil's most popular club team, Flamengo.
Bruno is said to have had an affair with Samudio in 2009, and he allegedly fathered a child with his former lover. The boy was born earlier this year. Bruno, who is married to another woman, was accused of threatening Samudio and demanding that she have an abortion.
Horrifying details about the alleged killing have emerged over the past few weeks. Police believe the young woman was strangled and fed to dogs in Belo Horizonte. While Samudio's body has not been found, authorities are confident that she is dead.
AFP reports that seven other people in addition to Bruno have been charged, including his wife and "an ex-policeman suspected of carrying out the premeditated murder on Souza's orders."
